Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education’s Refurbishment Plan

The Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education is in the process of implementing a vital refurbishment and maintenance plan for schools across the nation. Addressing Parliament yesterday, Minister Nono Kgafela-Mokoka made it crystal clear that restoring the dignity of schools is among the ministry’s very top priorities. The good news is that the comprehensive plans and proposals are already intact and firmly in place, though they are currently just waiting for the necessary funding to flow in.

The Minister also shared details about the exciting, newly launched #CountMeIn initiative, which is designed to forge stronger cooperation between stakeholders. By promoting mutual input, the ministry aims to develop and improve schools and learning facilities across the country. This effort has already seen success, having pooled funds and resources from individuals and the business community alike, leading to welcome improvements, particularly within secondary schools.

Further exciting developments were shared as the Minister spoke of a “new dawn rising,” emphasising how smart learning is providing boundless opportunities for learners from all walks of life. Strategic partnerships with prominent businesses like Huawei are actively helping to transform the landscape of education and learning. As an example, Letswai and Morule Primary Schools are currently benefiting from expanded access to both digital learning and power connectivity. Looking ahead, the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education is committed to increasing its capacity to actively work towards narrowing the gaps in rural education. The Minister concluded by noting that the use of mother tongue in instruction is another key component of learning that the ministry is currently investigating as part of its forward-thinking strategy.
