Ipelegeng Rebranded as Ikageng Public Works Programme, Workers to Earn P2,500

The Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs has announced the rebranding and reform of the long-running Ipelegeng programme, which will now be known as the Ikageng Public Works Programme.

In a savingram circulated to stakeholders, the ministry said the revamped programme will be implemented through a phased approach starting in January, following consultations with relevant stakeholders.

The government said the reforms are aimed at strengthening the programme’s impact as a social protection and employment initiative, while enhancing the dignity and livelihoods of participants.

A key highlight of the reform is the increase in workers’ earnings to P2,500, a move the government says is intended to promote decent livelihoods and provide better financial relief to beneficiaries who rely on the programme for survival.

The Ikageng Public Works Programme is expected to retain the core objective of community-based public works, while introducing improvements in structure, remuneration and overall implementation.

Further details on the rollout phases and operational guidelines are expected to be communicated as implementation begins in the new year.
