DCEC Denies Alleged Raid on Ministers & Seniors Govt officials, Warns Against Misinformation

Staff Writer

The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) has dismissed as false allegations circulating on social media that it conducted raids on senior government officials and interfered with investigations, urging the public to refrain from spreading misinformation.

In a press release issued on Friday, the anti-graft agency said it had noted unverified claims suggesting that the DCEC raided senior government official, Mr Nollen Bome, and that the Minister for State President, Defence and Security, Moeti Mohwasa, allegedly interfered with investigations to stop them from proceeding.

Further allegations circulating online also claimed that raids were carried out on Minister Mohwasa and another cabinet minister, Minister Ramogapi, during which large sums of money were purportedly discovered.

The DCEC categorically denied all the claims, stating that it has not received any reports or complaints of corruption against the two ministers or the individual mentioned.

“Consequently, no raids have been conducted, no cash seizures have been made, and there are no investigations whatsoever against the above-mentioned individuals,” the statement said.

The Directorate expressed concern over what it described as a growing trend of speculation, misleading narratives and disinformation being shared across social media platforms and other public forums. It warned that such information has the potential to mislead the public and unfairly damage reputations.

The DCEC reaffirmed its commitment to its mandate of combating corruption and economic crime without fear or favour, while calling on members of the public to verify information before sharing it.

The statement also encouraged the public to responsibly report corruption through established channels.

The DCEC operates under the guiding principle of “Resist, Reject, Report Corruption.”
