Navigating the Future of Work: ILES Hosts 5th Annual Labour Conference

Stakeholders from government, employers, organised labour, academia, and the legal fraternity have gathered for the ongoing two-day 5th Annual Labour Conference, hosted by the Institute for Labour and Employment Studies (ILES).

Held under the theme “Turning Law into Practice: Implementing the Employment and Labour Relations Act in a Digital and Transforming Economy,” the conference provides a platform for participants to examine how Botswana’s labour legislation can be effectively implemented amidst rapid technological advancement and changing workplace dynamics.

The event focuses on practical approaches to translating the provisions of the Employment and Labour Relations Act into meaningful workplace practices that protect workers’ rights while promoting productivity and economic growth.

Discussions are also exploring the opportunities and challenges presented by digital transformation, including evolving forms of employment, technological innovation, and the future of work.

Participants are exchanging ideas on strengthening compliance with labour laws, fostering constructive labour relations, and ensuring that Botswana’s legal and policy frameworks remain responsive to the demands of a modern, increasingly digital economy.

The annual conference underscores the importance of collaboration among key stakeholders in building fair, inclusive, and resilient workplaces. It reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that labour laws are not only well-crafted but also effectively implemented to support decent work, sustainable economic development, and improved industrial relations.

As the conference continues, delegates are expected to develop practical recommendations that will contribute to strengthening Botswana’s labour administration and advancing the effective implementation of the Employment and Labour Relations Act in an evolving world of work.
