New Meat Regulatory Authority to Revolutionise Botswana’s Beef Industry

The new meat regulatory body is anticipated to transform the meat industry.

This was disclosed at the recent Gantsi Agricultural Show. President Duma Boko said the establishment of a new meat regulatory authority, signalling a radical shift towards revitalising Botswana’s vital cattle farming industry.

Addressing attendees as the key speaker, President Boko emphasised his government’s commitment to liberalizing the beef sector at an agile pace. He stated that the new authority would play a crucial role in regulating prices and combating anti-competitive behaviour within the industry.

President Boko noted that this strategic move would help redirect the nation’s energy towards maximising the potential of its meat industry. The newly formed regulatory body is already in the process of recruiting a Chief Executive Officer, a testament to the government’s swift action.

This initiative comes at a pivotal time for Botswana’s beef sector, hot on the heels of recently signed beef export deals with China and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The President’s vision for a robust, regulated, and competitive meat industry aims to capitalise on these new international markets and ensure sustainable growth for cattle farmers across the nation.
