Government Partners With Tuli Block farmers to Upgrade Roads

Staff Writer

The government has this week partnered with the Tuli Block Farmers Association (TBFA) to upgrade roads in the Tuli Block region, in a move aimed at improving access and supporting agricultural production.

The Platjeen Road Project will cover a 138-kilometre stretch within the Tuli Block. The government has committed P350 million towards the upgrade, while TBFA has pledged to contribute gravel and other construction materials required for the project.

Speaking during a consultation meeting with farmers in the region, Minister for State President, Defence, and Security Moeti Mohwasa expressed satisfaction with the partnership, highlighting the economic importance of the Tuli Block. Mohwasa said the Tuli Block contributes at least 46 percent of the country’s local horticultural produce. Mohwasa noted that improved road infrastructure would significantly enhance productivity and market access for farmers.

For many years, farmers in the area have raised concerns over the poor state of roads. Mohwasa revealed that the partnership was initiated following a formal request from farmers, who wrote to the government on 5 November 2025, seeking collaboration on the project.

He further emphasised that public-private partnerships play a critical role in national development.
He stressed that these partnerships allow for improved service quality, shared risk, faster project delivery, and better value for taxpayers.

TBFA represents the collective interests of farmers in the Tuli Block and is committed to fostering a thriving and sustainable agricultural sector in the region.
